Originally named Lakshman Narayan Sharma, Neem Karoli Baba was born in 1900 in the small village of Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. He adopted the name Neem Karoli Baba following a transformative spiritual experience in the village of Neem Karoli, marking a pivotal moment in his spiritual journey.
His legacy endures through his ashrams and the profound teachings he shared with his disciples, continuing to inspire people around the world.
Kainchi Dham Ashram
Founded in 1964, Kainchi Dham is situated in the serene Kumaon Hills of Uttarakhand, India, offering breathtaking views and a tranquil atmosphere.
What makes this place so special and widely loved?
Kainchi Dham’s story begins with Neem Karoli Baba’s vision to create a spiritual refuge where individuals from all backgrounds could experience peace and inner calm. Surrounded by lush greenery and overlooking the peaceful Kosi River, the ashram’s location adds to its magical and spiritual charm.
Neem Karoli Baba was a devout follower of Hanuman, and the deity’s presence is strongly felt here.
Neem Karoli Baba Miracles
Neem Karoli Baba’s miracles continue to inspire people worldwide, and here are two of the most well-known stories that reflect his spiritual mastery and divine grace.
Maharajji and the LSD: A Story of Spiritual Mastery
In 1967, Ram Dass traveled to India, bringing LSD with him in search of someone who truly understood its power. When he met Neem Karoli Baba (Maharajji), he was astonished as Maharajji requested the “medicine”—the LSD. Despite Ram Dass’s hesitation, Maharajji took multiple doses, totaling around 900 micrograms, but astonishingly, there was no effect on him, leaving Ram Dass amazed.
Three years later, Maharajji repeated the test, this time taking 1,200 micrograms, again showing no reaction. He later explained that yogis in the Kullu Valley had once used such substances, but the knowledge of their usage had been forgotten over time. This incident demonstrated Maharajji’s complete mastery over material substances, showing that his consciousness transcended such worldly influences.
The Protective Umbrella
In 1967, R.P. Vaish, a devoted follower of Maharajji, received an umbrella from him with the advice to keep it during his trip to Kashmir, where heavy rains were common. Reluctantly, Vaish accepted and used the umbrella during his stay.
Years later, in 1978, after Maharajji had entered Mahasamadhi, Vaish faced a severe health crisis. His wife noticed the umbrella at home and suggested it might hold Baba’s protective blessings. The couple brought the umbrella to the hospital, and miraculously, Vaish’s health improved overnight, baffling the doctors. Vaish attributed his sudden recovery to the divine grace of Maharajji, channeled through the umbrella.
These are just a few examples of Neem Karoli Baba’s miracles, with many more stories passed down through generations, continuing to inspire believers.
